Case Study 3 focuses on the extraction of sand from the land-water boundary. We have concentrated on Lake Victoria as the user engagement discussions revealed (anecdotally) this had been prolific previously in Homa Bay locations. Recently, dredging was spotted around Takawiri Island and resulted in media attention alongside NEMA taking action (https://www.the-star.co.ke/counties/nyanza/2021-02-21-chinese-firm-officials-summoned-over-sand-harvesting-in-lake-victoria/)

Not all polygons cover the whole area. The difference around the water'd edge will be due to changing water levels in the lake due to rainfall. In future, a longer time-series will be processed to seperate these fluctations from any expansion of the lake due to land reclamation / shoreline sand extraction.
